Over the last few weeks, the Ohio State football program has been gaining momentum to get a commitment from five-star running back David Gabriel Georges. He is rated as the second-best running back recruit in the country. He'd be the best RB recruit to pick the Buckeyes since TreVeyon Henderson.

For a while, it seemed like it was between the Ohio State Buckeyes and Tennessee for Gabriel Georges. Those two have spent the most time recruiting him. He also has Ole Miss and Georgia on his final list, but it now looks like one of those schools did not make the cut.

Gabriel Georges has taken official visits to Ohio State, Tennessee, and Ole Miss. He was slated to take a visit to Georgia this upcoming weekend, as well. However, that will no longer happen. He has decided to cancel that visit, which is great news for the Ohio State football program.

The Ohio State football team's chances of landing David Gabriel Georges just increased

With him canceling that visit, it's down to just three schools. If we're being honest, it's really down to just two schools. It seems that the Bucks and the Vols have been fighting for him more than the Rebels. It likely comes down to those two schools, and Ohio State has the edge.

When he made his visit to Columbus, Gabriel Georges was decked out in Ohio State gear. When he visited Tennessee, he wasn't photographed wearing much Vols gear. That might be something small to look into, but it gives the Buckeyes some confidence that they can land him.

Ohio State's demolition of the Volunteers in the Shoe in 2024 still hangs fresh in fans' minds, so Tennessee fans are extra cocky about this recruiting situation. They seem to think that they will land Gabriel Georges because they are superior. It's unclear how they drew that conclusion after what Ohio State did to them on the field that night.

Ohio State is on the cusp of a great recruiting win

While Gabriel Georges doesn't seem to have an exact date by which he will make his commitment known, he is clearly getting closer. Canceling visits to other schools means that he has a vision in his head of what his collegiate experience will be over the next three to four years.

It's pretty clear that Ohio State can give him that experience, and Carlos Locklyn has done a good job communicating that to him. Of course, NIL money plays a factor, as well. He knows that he can be well-compensated for his talent. The Buckeyes are playing ball there, as well.

There have been unconfirmed rumors of how much money the Vols are willing to pay Gabriel Georges. If that rumored amount is true, Ohio State can't come close to that amount. However, it seems far-fetched that the Buckeyes would spend that much money on an incoming high school recruit.

This news is good, and Ohio State should only be excited about another school exiting the war for this talented recruit.
