5-star Ohio State commit talking with Texas is not good for Ryan Day

When five-star EDGE DJ Jacobs committed to Ohio State late in December, it was known that the elite prospect from the Atlanta suburbs would not completely shut his recruitment down.

So it shouldn't be a surprise to anyone that there continue to be rumors surrounding Jacobs' recruitment, and they were on display again this weekend during the Under Armour Next Camp Series event in Atlanta. Jacobs was observing his younger brother, Dawson, a highly-touted Class of 2028 defensive line prospect in his own right, and there was plenty of talk about the elder Jacobs' potential interest in some of his other top programs like Texas and Miami.

It's important to mention his younger brother, because everywhere one brother goes the other is there as well. So while Jacobs isn't announcing a spring trip to Austin, South Bend, Miami or anywhere else, if Dawson Jacobs is visiting some campuses over the spring, there's a great chance DJ will be there as well, and he can make those trips with a little less fanfare.

The good news is that Ohio State has the commitment and any team that tries to flip Jacobs will have to put in a lot of work.

Which teams are the biggest threat to flip DJ Jacobs?

Texas and Miami were planning to be after Jacobs until the ink dries on the signature of his letter of intent and there's no reason to think they will back out before December. On the surface, the Hurricanes and the Longhorns are the big threats, but anyone that counts out Georgia in the recruitment of the top prospect in the Peach State is making a mistake.

And then there's Notre Dame and the Irish are a bit of a darkhorse here. Jacobs' younger brother seems to be very high on Notre Dame and if both players take a visit back to South Bend this spring, there's reason to think the Irish could climb into the picture.

But right now, Jacobs is the centerpiece of Ohio State's 2027 class and expect Ryan Day, Matt Patricia and Larry Johnson to make sure it stays that way.
