5-star David Jacobs' Georgia visit gives Ohio State another major problem to deal with

Can't Ohio State and Ryan Day focus on Texas without last-minute drama arriving via the recruiting trail? Not quite, as breaking news just arrived that 5-star pass-rusher commit David 'DJ' Jacobs has made the trip over to Athens for a surprise visit. Yeah, this is not good for Day and Larry Johnson, as previously it seemed like only Tennessee and Miami were the main programs to worry about.

However, with the Dawgs being the in-state program, it's clear that Kirby Smart and his staff aren't going to give up hope on the elite talent, as there's plenty of time for Jacobs to have a change of heart before the Early Signing Period gets here. And for Day, this provides another problem in trying to keep him on board - it's also one that should raise some eyebrows.

With Jacobs' younger brother Dawson also visiting UGA for its showdown with Western Kentucky, it'd make sense for the entire family to make the trip. Still, this doesn't take away from the fact that Ohio State's prized EDGE commit for the 2027 class visiting an SEC powerhouse like this isn't a major concern for the staff.

Keep in mind, too, that Jacobs is also expected to take a visit to Knoxville this fall to meet with Josh Heupel and defensive line coach Rodney Garner. Interestingly enough, Garner coached up Jacobs' dad while the two were at Georgia. The relationship between the two has remained tight since, which is why Tennessee is going all-in to post a flip.

On top of that, you've got Mario Cristobal in Coral Gables also bringing in Jacobs for a Miami visit. For those keeping track at home, that's now three teams putting in serious work to make Jacobs realize that he shouldn't be playing his college ball in Columbus. Again, that's not good at all.

Ranked the No. 1 EDGE in the country, Jacobs has been committed to Ohio State since Dec. 29. Obviously, though, the more visits he takes to other schools, the less 'locked in' he's going to be with the Buckeyes. Day is also bringing in Jacobs and his family for several gameday visits this season, but will it be enough to hold off Georgia, Tennessee, and Miami?

That's what the Ohio State faithful are hoping for, but things are a bit complicated in that department right now. No one was expecting Georgia to not only schedule this visit, but also remain in the hunt. Smart most definitely is, which is not good at all. Jacobs' recruitment will, of course, be something to monitor closely, but this latest update should have people a little worried about him signing with OSU in December.
