2029 Ohio State receiver commit Austin Miller was ranked No. 50 in 247Sports' initial player rankings for that cycle. Bucknuts' Garrick Hodge believes the Bellflower, California, native only figures to rise in the coming years.
Miller is a two-way threat who is expected to specialize at the receiver position soon. He is entering his sophomore season in Division 12 of the CIF Southern Section.
"I still maintain Austin Miller is one of the best wide receivers in the 2029 recruiting class, and he'll have plenty of time over the next few seasons to see his ranking climb even higher," Hodge wrote. "The 6-foot-5, 200-pound prospect was a key contributor for Bellflower High School as a freshman, rushing for 883 yards and 13 touchdowns while catching 35 passes for 609 yards for eight touchdowns. He also recorded eight tackles for loss and four sacks on defense."
With 2029 being so far away, Miller has plenty of time to reconsider his decision. By all accounts, the Buckeyes were the team he wanted to play for, and he isn't considering anyone else. Miller didn't sugarcoat that while discussing his commitment-clinching visit in June.
"Being such a priority to coach Hankton so early in this 2029 class is a blessing to me because being his first Buckeye pledge since he got here from LSU was a huge deal to me," Miller said. "My relationship with Coach Hank is great, and what stands out about him as a coach is that he's always going to be real. He also invests time in his players, and he truly cares."
Still, he made it clear that Cortez Hankton was the main reason he committed. We don't know what Hankton's future holds, all things considered. He's gotten off to a slow start in the 2027 and 2028 classes, though worrying about that before the regular season starts is probably needless. Commitments will likely start flowing at some point.
That doesn't guarantee anything, being so far out from 2029, though.
USC expected to make a strong push for Austin Miller
Per The Athletic's Cameron Teague Robinson, "There’s a long way to go before Miller signs in two years, so expect the California schools, especially USC, to get involved in this one..."
By all accounts, USC is a live threat to flip Miller. You could count Arizona, Arizona State, Cal, and maybe even Colorado in that mix of interested poachers. The latter seems reliant on Deion Sanders sticking with the Buffs for another three seasons after this fall.
Miller will be sold on staying home, not leaving the West Coast, not going to a cold-weather state, and everything in between. If his intentions are purely football, there's no doubt that OSU is the new "WRU" in the modern game. Schools may have their pitches, but the Buckeyes' is on practically every Sunday on NFL Sunday Ticket. That'll be hard to top organically. It's not like The Ohio State University isn't ready for a bidding war, either.
Talking about all that for Miller is premature, though. Cart before the horse situation here with a 2029 recruit.
Who knows what twists and turns the sport will have faced by the time 2029 rolls around, anyway.
