2024 Week 14 12-team College Football Playoff rankings prediction
By Ryan Stano
It has been a long college football season, but it is finally winding down to an end. The Ohio State football team has shown that they are one of the best teams in the country all year long. Their lone loss came on the road, at night, by one point to a team that has gone undefeated.
The Ohio State Buckeyes now have two top-five wins after taking down Indiana. That's a pretty strong resume. Meanwhile, the SEC took a bloodbath and showed that they truly are a mediocre conference. Things have changed quite a bit in the College Football Playoff race.
In our final CFP prediction table of the season, we take a look at what the Playoff scenario will likely be following this final week of regular season football. The Buckeyes are in good shape, but where does IU sit after losing their only tough game in blowout fashion?
Seed | Team | Reason they are here | Previous rank |
---|---|---|---|
1. | Oregon | Big Ten Champion | 1. |
2. | Texas | SEC Champion | 2. |
3. | SMU | ACC Champion | 4. |
4. | Boise State | MWC Champion | 12. |
5. | Ohio State | At-Large | 5. |
6. | Penn State | At-Large | 7. |
7. | Notre Dame | At-Large | 8. |
8. | Georgia | At-Large | 10. |
9. | Tennessee | At-Large | N/A |
10. | Miami | At-Large | 11 |
11. | Indiana | At-Large | 6 |
12. | Arizona State | Big 12 Champion | N/A |
Even though the Buckeyes blew out Indiana this weekend, IU still makes the playoff. Part of that is because three SEC teams crapped down their leg. Ole Miss, Texas A&M, and Alabama all lost. All have three losses now and are eliminated from the Playoff because of that.
That also makes the ACC a two-bid league. I still think Miami gets in even if they don't beat SMU in the ACC Championship Game. Things would get even crazier if Texas loses this week to Texas A&M, then even the Big 12 might have a shot to get two teams in.
Speaking of the Big 12, they are a complete mess. BYU has now lost two straight games and look awful. They're pretty much done. Colorado, everyone's darlings, got crushed. At this point, Arizona State looks like the best bet, but that's no guarantee. What is guaranteed is that they will be the lowest-ranked conference champion of the major conferences.
Is there any possible way Tulane could win the AAC and end up with a higher ranking than whoever wins the Big 12? I don't think so, but that's definitely worth monitoring in the final week of the year.
