2024 Week 12 12-team College Football Playoff rankings prediction

After another big win, the Ohio State football team is in good shape to make the College Football Playoff.

The Ohio State football team got another big win last week against Purdue. They shut them out 45-0 in a game that wasn't close at any point. We saw in last week's CFP rankings that they are the second-ranked team in the country. I don't expect that to change this Tuesday, either.

Even though they are ranked second, they are still the five-seed. That's because Oregon just keeps winning games and is ranked first. The Ohio State Buckeyes can't quarrel with that either since they lost to the Ducks a few weeks ago. They can only hope for revenge in the Big Ten Championship.

There were a lot of upsets this weekend that will affect the CFP, though. This week's prediction table will reflect that. A lot of teams will be lower down on the list and some new contenders will enter at the bottom. That's the nature of the new 12-team Playoff.

The biggest change to this week's table is the fact that Miami dropped out completely. They went from four to off the table. They have been flirting with disaster all year long and finally got beaten by Georgia Tech. That makes the ACC a one-bid league and SMU gets that nod.

I think the Big 12 is likely a one-bid league, too. With Iowa State losing again, the best chance they have at getting multiple teams in is if Colorado beats an undefeated BYU team in the Big 12 Championship. Otherwise, it'll be just the Cougars getting in.

IU makes a big move up after beating Michigan. They are the Buckeyes' next opponent. The Hoosiers might get in regardless of whether they beat Ohio State or not. Ole Miss gets a big bump after beating Georgia. Alabama falls out despite beating LSU because I think Ole Miss' win is just more impressive.

We're getting down to the wire in this college football season. There are going to be some more elimination games as the season winds down.
