2024 Week 10 12-team College Football Playoff rankings prediction
By Ryan Stano
It was not a very impressive win for the Ohio State football team on Saturday. They won 21-17 in a game that wasn't decided until Jordan Hancock had a game-winning interception. Coming off a bye week, that's not exactly what you wanted to see from this team.
Some other College Football Playoff contenders looked better. Oregon smoked Illinois. Texas beat a ranked opponent on the road. Miami destroyed Florida State. A lot of other teams looked better than the Buckeyes did. Considering the Ohio State Buckeyes were coming off a bye week, that's disappointing.
In this week's College Football Playoff prediction table, there will be more movement towards the bottom than there is at the top. This week will tell us a lot more about the CFP picture than this past weekend did.
Seed | Team | Reason they are here | Previous Rank |
---|---|---|---|
1. | Oregon | Big Ten Champion | 1 |
2. | Texas | SEC Champion | 2 |
3. | Miami | ACC Champion | 3 |
4. | Iowa State | Big 12 Champion | 4 |
5. | Georgia | At-Large | 7 |
6. | Penn State | At-Large | 6 |
7. | Ohio State | At-Large | 5 |
8. | Notre Dame | At-Large | 8 |
9. | BYU | At-Large | N/A |
10. | Clemson | At-Large | 10 |
11. | Texas A&M | At-Large | N/A |
12. | Army | AAC Champion | N/A |
Ohio State falls two spots because of their poor performance against the Cornhuskers. Georgia didn't play this week, so they move up. I still think Texas will beat them in a rematch in the SEC Championship Game, so that's why I have Texas at the two-seed instead of Georgia.
BYU just keeps winning, so they have to be on the table. They have a real shot to win the Big 12. Texas A&M got a big win over LSU and looks so much better than the did under Jimbo Fisher. This team is a real threat to grab an at-large spot with Bama falling apart. I'm still not a believer in Tennessee, so they don't get the nod this week.
Liberty lost last week, so Army gets the ball for the final spot. There is a solid shot that the Black Knights get to the Army/Navy game undefeated. At this point, they should be the favorites to win the AAC. I think that would be more impressive than what Boise State has done.
After the Ohio State/Penn State game this weekend, we'll have a clearer idea of what the CFP picture is going to look like.
