The Ohio State football team is undefeated and ranked third in the country in the polls. They beat a ranked Notre Dame team on the road, at night, in a hostile environment. You would think those facts alone would be enough for them to be considered a truly elite team.

You would be wrong. Ohio State is a very good football team right now. Their defense has shown that they can be leaned on to stop teams when they need to. They even showed on Saturday against Maryland that they can score points too. Offensively, they can explode for big yards like they did in the second half of that game too.

But the problem is consistency. The Buckeyes have yet to show that they can consistently dominate on the offensive side of the ball. They had just 28 yards of total offense after the first quarter on Saturday. That’s something that can’t happen in two weeks.

In two weeks, the Ohio State football team takes on Penn State. The Nittany Lions are the best version of themselves that we have seen in a long time. They are ranked sixth in the country and are also undefeated. They will be the second-best team Ohio State will face this year.

Michigan will be the best team they face all year. The Game is in Ann Arbor this year. If Ohio State wants to beat either of these two foes, they have to be able to block better in the run game. The running game was putrid on Saturday. They only gained 62 yards on 33 total carries.

The offensive line is clearly the weakest link on this team. We may be too far into the season to fix that. Ryan Day has to come up with more creative ways to be effective in the run game against Penn State in a couple of weeks because those numbers won’t fly.

The Buckeyes have one more week to fix things, this week against Purdue. We’ll see if they are able to do so.
