Ohio State Football: Josh Proctor finally shining

The Ohio State football team has played some good defense so far this season. The secondary has been the most improved unit of the team this season. Denzel Burke looks like his 2021 self after dealing with injuries last year and is shutting down an entire side of the field.

The safeties have also played really well so far this year. Josh Proctor has been one of the safeties who have kept big plays in front of him. He just had his best performance of his career against Maryland on Saturday afternoon during a 37-17 victory.

Proctor was the only source of a touchdown for the Buckeyes in the first half. The offense was putrid in the first half, only scoring three points. Proctor helped with a 23-yard pick-six in the second quarter to give Ohio State seven points and reduce their deficit to just three.

Proctor would finish the game with 7 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, and that critical pick-six. He was the best player on the field for the Ohio State football team. But this performance isn’t out of the blue for him this season. He’s been excellent all year long.

At the start of his career, Proctor was not very good. He played too much as a redshirt freshman in 2019 and got burned pretty frequently. He wasn’t much better in 2020 playing as a backup. In 2021, he broke his leg against Oregon and hardly played that year. He didn’t play a ton last year either.

I was very surprised that Proctor won one of the starting safety positions this year in his sixth year of college football. I didn’t think he was very good. He wasn’t very good in coverage and didn’t come up to help much in the running game. I have been pleasantly proven wrong.

Proctor has been really good in his final year with the Buckeyes. I hope he continues his strong play throughout the entire season.
