Ryan Day publicly took offense to Lou Holtz calling his Ohio State football team soft on national television. One has to wonder if this Saturday will once again be on his mind as the Buckeyes welcome the undefeated Maryland Terrapins into Ohio Stadium for a clash between two unbeaten Big Ten East opponents.

In the press box calling plays for Maryland on Saturday will be the man who started the entire Ohio State is soft narrative as Josh Gattis makes his return to Columbus, Ohio.

"Following the 2021 Michigan win, on Inside the Michigan Football radio show two days after the game, Gattis stated the following, “(We) started fast in setting the ton for the game and really creating the identity of the game that we were going to dominate on both fronts. Not just the offensive line, but the defensive line, as well, just being able to smash them however we could and really set the tone. They’re a good team. They’re a finesse team, they’re not a tough team.”"

Of course, the Wolverine fanbase took that quote and ran with it on their social media accounts, and just like that, the narrative of Ohio State not being tough was born.

Ryan Day himself, during his post-game interview rant, mentioned that very game.

"“Everybody’s questioning these kids all the time. We’ve had one bad half the last couple years. That’s it. Everybody wants to question these guys. These guys are warriors.”"

If the Ohio State football team wins on Saturday, one has to wonder if Day will take the opportunity to throw some shade at Gattis. Sign me up for Day being angry every week at someone as long as that motivates him to be more aggressive.
