The Ohio State football team came into their Week 3 matchup against Western Kentucky hoping to dominate on both sides of the ball. It didn’t look that way after the first quarter after the Buckeyes were winning by a score of just 7-3. Things needed to change.

Oh boy, did they. The Buckeyes scored 35 points in the second quarter and never looked back. Kyle McCord was done playing after the third quarter because of the blowout that was occurring. He finished the game 19/23 for 318 yards and 3 touchdowns. He did fumble the ball once though.

McCord looked very comfortable in the pocket. He looks like he is ready to head on the road and take on Notre Dame next week, which will be the first real opponent that Ohio State has played so far. Marvin Harrison Jr. finished the game with 5 catches for 126 yards and a touchdown.

The defense of Ohio State was as good as it’s been all season. They were dominant yet again, allowing just 10 points. In fact, they scored a touchdown. Tyleik Williams recovered a fumble in the end zone for a touchdown after Denzel Burke forced it.

Ohio State actually forced two fumbles in this game. The defense looks like it has taken a big step in the second year under Jim Knowles. Players are no longer thinking, they are just reacting to what they see. Even freshman Jermaine Matthews had a pick-six in the fourth quarter.

This is the type of performance that the Ohio State football team needed to have heading into a hostile environment next weekend against Notre Dame. Both sides of the ball were firing on all cylinders for the final three quarters of the game. Ryan Day has to be pleased.

Next. Brian Hartline a contender for the MSU job. dark

We can only hope that they take this type of performance into South Bend next week and build off of it. A 63-10 is a pretty good way to prepare.
