The X-Factor – Confidence Level 8

There is a debate on social media, sports talk programs, and amongst fans on what constitutes a trap game. For instance, if everyone circles a game on the schedule as a trap game, doesn’t that now eliminate that particular game on the schedule as a trap game since everyone sees it as a trap game? Usually, this is the game right before you play your rival or the game right after a big emotional game.

If you take several of those factors into account, this Saturday’s game at Ohio State may actually be a trap game. Even though everyone is saying that Western Kentucky is a very good Group of 5 program, no one is picking them to win the game. Even their fans for the most part are not calling for the upset on Saturday. When the so-called experts give their predictions about this contest, no doubt everyone will quickly pick the Ohio State football team and move on.

Giving the Hilltoppers that extra motivation when they already have a giant-sized chip on their shoulder is just adding more fuel to their fire. This might actually be the trap game that no one sees coming. There have been plenty of Group of 5 schools walking into the Horseshoe and giving the Buckeyes a close game. Cincinnati, Tulsa, and Navy come to mind.

Ohio State better be ready to play or Western Kentucky will punch them right in the mouth from the opening whistle. And unlike Youngstown State, they actually do have a few more horses who can run with our four and five-star athletes. The Hilltoppers are not coming to Ohio to collect a paycheck. They are coming here to upset Ohio State. The Buckeyes better be ready to play at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
