When the Ohio State football team travels to Bloomington, Indiana to take on the Indiana Hoosiers this Saturday, the Buckeyes will be putting the Big Ten Conference’s longest winning streak over a conference opponent on the line. Ohio State has won 27 consecutive games against the Hoosiers. That streak is not only the longest active streak in the conference but is the longest of all time inside the Big Ten.

Michigan had a 24 consecutive win streak over Indiana, which was the longest in the conference at the time before it was snapped in 2020 when the Hoosiers won 38-21. Ohio State’s streak over the crimson and cream of 27 games began in 1991. Indiana last defeated the Buckeyes in 1988 but then played to a 27-27 tie in 1990.

John Cooper finished his time in Columbus with a 9-1-1 record against Indiana, winning his last eight in a row. Jim Tressel went 8-0 but is only credited for seven victories as his final win in 2010 was vacated. Luke Fickell defeated Indiana in 2011 by a score of 34-20 adding his one win to the streak.

Urban Meyer won all seven games against Indiana during his tenure, just like he did against That Team Up North. So far Ryan Day has gone 4-0 during his time as the head coach, which is how we are currently sitting at a 27-game win streak.

Indiana has had seven different head coaches during this losing streak. Bill Mallory, who was the last Indiana coach to defeat the Ohio State football team, lost his last six straight against Cooper and his Buckeyes. He was followed by Cam Cameron (0-3), Gerry DiNardo (0-3), Terry Hoeppner (0-2), Bill Lynch (0-1), Kevin Wilson (0-5), and Tom Allen (0-7).

This 27-game win streak is currently the longest active streak in college football today. The longest conference win streak of all time was Nebraska over Kansas, which began in 1969 and ran through 2004 until it ended in 2005. The longest streak of all-time was Notre Dame over Navy at 43 games which took place between the years of 1964 through 2006, but this streak was between non-conference foes.
