The Ohio State football team’s mascot, Brutus, was the first to have the Big Ten adding Oregon. College football is crazy right now.

The Ohio State football team welcomes two new members of the Big Ten conference as Oregon and Washington have officially been added for the 2024 football season. As wild as things are getting right now with college football realignment, the craziest thing might be that Ohio State’s mascot, Brutus, was the first one to have Oregon join the Big Ten.

Last week we wrote about how Brutus was hinting at Oregon joining the Big Ten by posting pictures of himself and the Oregon Duck together on his Instagram page. Brutus captioned the picture with “BIG things coming.”

And one week later, Oregon is an official member of the Big Ten with Washington riding their coattails. College football is absolutely nuts right now with college mascots actually hinting at conference realignment before it’s officially announced.

Well, I guess congratulations are in order for Brutus as maybe he is on the fast track in becoming the next Pete Thamel or Adam Schefter. But in all seriousness, we are living in some wild times in this college football landscape.

As much as I hate that the tradition of college football is quickly getting left behind, this move was inevitable. USC and UCLA logistically could not be the only west coast schools in the Big Ten. They needed to have a pod of schools out west, especially for their non-revenue sports to have teams close by.

With 18 schools in the Big Ten already for the 2024 football season, I wouldn’t be shocked to see two more added to make it 20. I know the Florida State, Clemson, Virginia, and North Carolina rumors are spicy right now, but it probably makes more sense for the next two schools to be out west as well. I’d look for Stanford and Cal as the next likely options.

I just find it fascinating in a world of an ever-changing college football landscape, it was the Ohio State football team’s mascot Brutus who eventually called Oregon as the next Big Ten school.
