With the season right around the corner for the Ohio State football team, rumors are swirling that the Oregon Ducks could be next to join the Big Ten.

The Ohio State football team might have a new conference foe coming to the Big Ten. With USC and UCLA joining the conference next season, it only makes sense that the Big Ten continues its westward expansion to give those schools a pod of teams. The Ohio State mascot, Brutus, hinted that Oregon could be next via his Instagram account.

A picture of Brutus with the Oregon Duck at Autzen Stadium, home of the Oregon Ducks, has a caption saying, “BIG things coming,” have many believing that Oregon might become the Big Ten’s next school.

Of course, this could also mean that Ohio State is going to travel to Oregon to play a football game, presumably to make up for the missed trip to Autzen Stadium from the pandemic season, but the word “BIG” is leading me to believe that they are hinting at some Big Ten expansion.

This would be a crazy way for the Big Ten to tease the announcement. Why would they have one school’s mascot Instagram account hint at this? Who knows, but I’m all for Oregon joining the Big Ten. It just makes too much sense not only on the football field and basketball court but also logistically.

Especially having basketball teams from the Midwest and east coast traveling to LA for UCLA and USC, it makes sense to have a pod of teams to have a true west coast swing. If Oregon joins, I would suspect that Washington would be next in line to complete the foursome.
