Ohio State Football gets transfer linebacker from Northwestern
By Ryan Stano
Now that we are heading into Fall camp, I didn’t expect the Ohio State football team to make any additions to the roster for the upcoming season. All of the recruiting for the class of 2023 is done and most transfers have made their decisions on where to play this year.
That was clearly not the case as the Buckeyes added a linebacker to their roster for the upcoming season. Nigel Glover, a linebacker from Northwestern, announced that he was transferring to Ohio State and has eligibility to play immediately. He has four years of eligibility remaining.
Glover leaves a Northwestern program that has been thrown into turmoil. I’m sure he won’t be the last player to decide to leave Evanston for somewhere else. There will be a lot of former Wildcats looking to play somewhere else in the next couple of years.
As far as Glover is concerned, he’s a good player. He was a four-star prospect coming out of high school and is an Ohio kid. He’s from Clayton, Ohio. Glover has good size for an outside linebacker and the speed to match it as well. He’s a sure-tackler too which is something the Ohio State football team needs.
Glover gives the Buckeyes some depth at the linebacker position, which is surprisingly the one position on the defense that they don’t really need it at. They have a ton of good linebackers on the roster and they only play two of them at a time under Jim Knowles’ scheme.
I doubt we see much of Glover in 2023. He’s just now enrolling in school and doesn’t know anything about the defensive scheme. He’s got a much better chance of getting some playing time in 2024 once he’s had a shot to learn the scheme and his teammates better.
I’m all for accumulating talent, and Glover is just that. He’s a talented football player.
