Former Ohio State football player and current radio personality, Tyvis Powell has been named as a new analyst for the Big Ten Network for this year’s football season as a part of their Tailgate Show. Powell, a Bedford, Ohio native, has become a regular on 97.1 The Fan programming in Columbus. Now the former safety will be offering his unique analysis along with Mike Hall on the Big 10 Conferences flagship program.

The Big 10 Network must like having a former Buckeye on their programming. Former Buckeye Joshua Perry moved from the Big Ten Network to NBC in lieu of the Big Ten having primetime games being played on NBC.

Before Perry, Ohio State’s current linebacker’s coach James Laurinaitis was a color commentator as a part of the Big Ten Network’s number-one team. Now Powell will assume the role of former Buckeye working for the Big 10 Network.

Powell played for the Ohio State football team from 2013-2015 after being redshirted in 2012. He finished his career in Columbus with 41 games played, 195 tackles, three and a half tackles for loss, nine pass deflections, eight interceptions, and one forced fumble.

After going undrafted in the 2016 NFL Draft, Powell jumped around the league for five seasons on several practice squads before playing one final season in the Canadian Football League for the BC Lions.

Powell will excel in his new position with the Big 10 Network. He has a unique ability to add humor intertwined with excitement and enthusiasm that comes across well on the radio. Now we will find out if it will be just as successful on television as well.
