Ohio State Football: Jim Harbaugh proves he’s a hypocrite
By Ryan Stano
What’s that they say about throwing stones and glass houses? Maybe it’s something Jim Harbaugh should look up after getting suspended for the first four games of next season. This comes after throwing out baseless allegations against Ryan Day and the Ohio State football program.
Harbaugh is getting suspended for breaking rules during COVID and then lying about it. This is rich coming from someone who openly accused Day of breaking the rules during a joint call with other Big Ten coaches. Clearly, Harbaugh has proven to be a hypocrite himself.
Is it a coincidence that this happens right after they start winning more games? I’m not sure. These recruiting violations really weren’t that serious. What was serious is lying about them. That begs the question, what else could Harbaugh be lying about?
I think a lot of what constitutes an NCAA violation these days is a joke. A lot of coaches get punished for dumb things. But coaches like Kirby Smart and Harbaugh, who claim to have done nothing wrong, deserve to be punished if and when they do have violations.
Smart’s lack of accountability in his program and then allegedly having a reporter fired after he reported on those issues is a whole other matter. Harbaugh’s issues stem from the fact that he wanted to deliberately falsify statements when the NCAA came sniffing around.
Day has never had any issues even close to this. While he may be on the hot seat for not winning games at the end of the year, he’s never had any remotely serious allegations of wrongdoing. He has control of the Ohio State football program and the respect of his players. When there have been issues, he’s been swift to act.
Michigan isn’t going to lose any of the games Harbaugh is suspended for. They are all easy wins on the schedule. This isn’t a real punishment, to be honest with you. But it does show that Harbaugh should keep his mouth shut and worry about his own program.
