Ohio State Football fans freaking out at recruit taking visits
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football program has the second-best recruiting class in the country for the 2024 class. Part of the reason for that is the fact that they have Jeremiah Smith, the number two-ranked player in the country, headlining that class. He’s yet another five-star receiver Brian Hartline is bringing in.
We told you last week the fact that he is still taking visits despite being committed to the Ohio State football program. Smith had scheduled visits with some other programs, including Georgia. Each recruit is allowed one official visit to a college campus.
Buckeye fans are freaking out that Smith went to visit Georgia shortly after Dylan Raiola, who de-committed from Ohio State, decided that he wanted to play in Athens. Some fans sent tweets to him, which led him to tweet this:
I do think that Smith is committed to the Buckeyes for the long haul and is just enjoying getting to check out other campuses while he can. Heck, I would too. You get all kinds of free gear on these visits and you get to check out some of the coolest facilities in the country.
It’s not a lot of Buckeye fans sending him messages on social media, but it’s enough to get some people talking. I think everyone just needs to relax. I truly believe that he will be with the Buckeyes once December rolls around and he can sign his letter of intent.
Unfortunately, with NIL now legal, this is the type of stuff that is going to happen more and more often. Kids will shop around on visits trying to get the best deal. I’m not saying that’s what Smith is doing here, but I understand why some Ohio State football fans are getting nervous.
I’m sure Smith will end up in Scarlet and Gray when everything is said and done.
