In the world of NIL, a commitment is never sealed until a recruit signs their letter of intent. The Ohio State football program already knows that after Dylan Raiola, the number one prospect in the 2024 class, de-committed months ago and is still looking at schools.

The Buckeyes have the number-two ranked prospect in the 2024 class committed to them as well in Jeremiah Smith. Smith, a wide receiver, is the best recruit in Ohio State’s class right now. He committed to the program in December after having offers from all of the big programs.

Yet, Smith is still taking visits to other schools. With the new rules, recruits can take as many official visits as they want. A lot of recruits keep visiting schools because they simply can, even if they have no intention of flipping their commitment elsewhere.

Since his pledge to the Ohio State football program, Smith has taken visits to Miami, Florida State, and Florida. He has also unofficially visited Ohio State and will take his official visit to Ohio State in June. He is also planning on visiting Georgia this weekend.

Is this a bad sign for the Buckeyes that he is still taking visits? Or is he just enjoying traveling to different places and getting free gear? As I mentioned to start things out, you never know until that LOI is signed and delivered. Teams can come in with major NIL offers to sway kids.

I tend to think that Smith will keep his commitment to the Buckeyes. With Brian Hartline’s track record of getting receivers into the NFL, there is no better place for a top receiver recruit to go to school. Smith should want to get coached by the best so he can be great at the next level.

We’ll certainly keep tracking Smith’s movements and let you know if something changes.
