In case you missed it over the weekend, Bronny James officially chose a college. He committed to USC over Oregon and the Ohio State basketball program. Ohio State was the only program he had an official visit with and yet he still chose to go to USC and stay in Los Angeles.

This is not a surprising development. We told you it was all but sealed two weeks ago. Bronny is a four-star recruit and obviously has Hall of Fame genes but he’s not the same talent his dad is. His dad is generational. Bronny is not. Bronny might not even be one-and-done.

While it would have been kind of cool to have the son of LeBron James play for the Ohio State basketball team, it’s actually a good thing that he decided to stay home and play for USC. It’s good for both the Buckeyes and Bronny himself that he made this decision.

It’s good for the Buckeyes because they avoid all of the craziness that would come with Bronny committing to Ohio State. It’s already going to be an extremely young team with very little veteran leadership. Adding a media circus to the fold wouldn’t be a good thing.

It’s also good that Bronny kept his distance away from the current state of the program. This is the worst the program has looked in the last 20 years. Chris Holtmann’s seat is scalding. Why would Bronny want to move back to the Midwest to play in a situation like this?

This decision allows the Buckeyes to focus on improving from that awful season without any added drama. The microscope is already going to be on this coaching staff throughout the year. They don’t need the added pressure of keeping someone in the James family happy.

We wish Bronny nothing but the best in his college and pro career, but this decision is the best for both parties.
