Ohio State basketball: Did Chris Holtmann hint at landing Bronny James?
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State basketball team has yet another stellar recruiting class coming in this season. They currently have the 8th-best class in the country. It’s a class that has four commits in it, so it’s already pretty full. Even so, Chris Holtmann said he might add another player.
Speaking at a NIL event last night, Holtmann mentioned how much he likes the incoming class but also mentioned that the Buckeyes could still add a player to the incoming recruiting class.
There really aren’t many players left in the country who remain uncommitted from the 2023 class. Could he mean Bronny James? James is one of just three players in the top-85 that remain uncommitted in the class. We also know that Ohio State is the only place he made an official visit.
If that player isn’t James, the only other player it could be is Mackenzie Mgbako. The five-star power forward just recently de-committed from Duke and is looking for somewhere else to go. The Ohio State basketball team offered him way back in September.
Truth be told, I’m surprised to hear this from Holtmann. I thought the class was done and the roster was pretty much put together. Looking at the roster, it would make way more sense to add a power forward than it would to add another guard like Bronny.
Holtmann said they’ll find out in the next week or two whether or not they are going to add another player. I guess we’ll just wait and see what kind of news comes out.
