Ohio State Football: Is C.J. Stroud falling in the NFL Draft?
By Ryan Stano
Since the college football season ended, there have been two guys that have been talked about that could be the first quarterback taken. Those two guys are of course C.J. Stroud and Bryce Young. Now that the Panthers own the first pick, one of those guys is assumed to be the number one overall pick.
For a while, it was assumed that Stroud was going to be the number one pick because of Frank Reich’s preference to work with a bigger quarterback. Now it seems that the odds have shifted and Young is now the favorite to be drafted number one overall.
Now it seems that Stroud may not even go to the Texans at two. Various sportsbooks now have Will Levis at better odds to go second overall than Stroud. What’s interesting is that Adam Schefter recently said he doesn’t think quarterbacks go back-to-back in the Draft and that the next quarterback could go at four to the Colts.
If that’s the case, I would be absolutely ecstatic. As a Colts fan, I would love to have Stroud lead the franchise for the next decade. I think he’s the best overall quarterback prospect. If Young were taller, I’d say it was him. But Stroud’s size gives him the advantage.
If Stroud does slide, it could end up being the best thing for him in the long run. He could use it to put a chip on his shoulder and prove to everyone that he should’ve been the first overall pick. The Colts also have an owner who isn’t afraid to spend money if necessary and they have two young receivers who are pretty good.
The only thing I worry about is the offensive line. If Stroud does go to Indy, he might have to be more mobile than he’s used to. Then again, we are just over a week away from the Draft. Rumors like this fly all over the place for a reason. We’ll see what happens.
