Ohio State Football: 3 losers from the Spring Game
By Ryan Stano
2. The offensive line
The offensive line has to replace three starters from last year’s group. They are replacing a center and both tackles. That’s not an easy thing to do, especially when recruiting along that line was stalled out because of an ineffective offensive line coach.
Greg Studrawa’s poor recruiting for years has caught up with the Ohio State football team. The Buckeyes looked awful up front on Saturday. Frankly, neither tackle looked good. Both Josh Fryar and Zen Michalski looked overmatched when it came to pass protection.
Because they kept getting beat, McCord didn’t have much time to operate in the pocket. It was definitely a factor in how bad he looked. If the offensive line can’t pass block on the edges, this team is in a massive amount of trouble heading into this season.
There is still a position battle being fought at right tackle. Tegra Tshabola didn’t light the world on fire with the second team either. If Ohio State can’t find a right tackle, that’s a massive issue. Fryar’s performance at left tackle wasn’t great either but he’s really the only option the team has at that position.
I was very disappointed in the offensive line this weekend. I thought they would be better even with having to replace three starters. But as I mentioned before, it is still Spring. They have plenty of time to get better before the first game in the Fall.
The last guy on this list is a veteran who started out strong last season before having a horrendous finish to the year.
