Ohio State football NFL Draft bust No. 5: Darron Lee

2016 NFL Draft, Round 1, Pick 20
New York Jets, 2016-2018
Kansas City Chiefs, 2019
Buffalo Bills, 2020

Darron Lee was one of the players who really helped the defense when the Ohio State football team won the national championship in 2014. He made plays all over the field at the linebacker position. He ended up being one of four Buckeyes on defense taken in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft.

Lee was taken by the New York Jets with the 20th overall pick. He had an up-and-down first year as a pro. He got hurt and missed a few games but ended the year as a starter. His best season was his second year in 2017 when he finished with 94 tackles and 3 sacks.

Things started to unravel for him in 2018. He was suspended for four games late in the year due to PEDs. That was the final straw for the Jets in terms of keeping him long-term. That offseason, they declined his fifth-year option and he became a free agent.

Part of the reason Lee isn’t higher on this list is because he signed with the Chiefs and won a Super Bowl ring in 2019. He didn’t play very much that season though and was a free agent again in 2020. He had to serve another four-game suspension to start that year.

He hasn’t really played much since. Lee played a couple of games for the Bills in 2020 but hasn’t played since. He’s got bigger problems right now after a recent arrest for domestic violence and assault. For all intents and purposes, his career is over. It’s a shame.

The next player on this list is, unfortunately, another Indianapolis Colt.
