Ohio State Football: 3 Storylines heading into Spring ball
No. 2: Who steps up amongst offensive linemen?
Another major storyline will revolve around the offensive line as there will be three positions up for grabs. There will be new players starting at center, left tackle, and right tackle for the Buckeyes. Along with a new quarterback coming in, whoever plays these important positions could make or break the 2023 season.
The center battle appears to be wide open amongst new transfer Vic Cutler, fourth-year player Jakob James and second-year player Carson Hinzman. Hinzman drew praise from the coaching staff at media availability last month as he and Cutler should both see a lot of reps this spring with Jakob James out due to injury.
One of the open tackle spots should be Josh Fryars to lose. He was clearly the sixth offensive lineman last season and that is usually an indication of future playing time. Fryar did start against Indiana and was graded out as a champion by the coaching staff.
The other open tackle spot should come down to Zen Michalski or second-year player Tegra Tshabola, who has been getting rave reviews from those inside the Woody Hayes Athletic Center. If one or both of these two can have strong springs then that should ease Ryan Day’s mind about the uncertainty of the position heading into the summer.
