If you’re an Ohio State basketball fan, it’s a rough time out there right now. The Buckeyes finished off the month of January 2-7 and now just sit at 11-10 overall. They have won just three games in the Big Ten and don’t look like they can beat any team in the conference.

Chris Holtmann has started to take a lot more criticism from fans this season. It’s all justified too. He brought in a top-ten recruiting class this season and has done nothing with it. Not only is this team not getting better, they are actively getting worse.

It’s clear that Holtmann has no answers left with this team. Watching the Buckeyes operate half-court offense is like getting your teeth pulled. It’s incredibly painful. There’s no ball movement, very little player movement, and ugly shots. There’s way too much one-on-one play.

Fans are starting to call for Holtmann to get fired. I agree with that sentiment strictly based on the results on the court. His recruiting has been indisputably great. That’s what makes the results of this season all the more frustrating. He has talent on the team but he clearly doesn’t know how to direct it.

Thad Matta hasn’t been doing too great at Butler this year either. His Bulldogs have close to the same record as this Ohio State basketball team does. It’s a sad time to be a Buckeye basketball fan. I know all Buckeye fans want Matta to do well too.

Next. Buckeyes' defensive effort needs to improve. dark

As for Holtmann, fans better get their heads around the fact that he’s not going anywhere. Gene Smith offered him that boneheaded extension last summer so Holtmann stays next year. After that, things could change if there’s no improvement. Until then, fans will have to suffer through the rest of this year.
