Ohio State Buckeyes. KEVIN WILSON. B+. A great six-season stint at Ohio State comes to a close for Kevin Wilson as he is taking over the Tulsa program. Wilson did a very good job this season in getting a converted linebacker in Cade Stover to play like an All-Big Ten team tight end. The depth behind Stover left little to be desired however and some misses in recruiting haven’t helped that situation. But Wilson left the Buckeyes with a top-100 tight end prospect in Jelani Thurman, so the cupboard isn’t bare. Wilson’s game-planning experience will be missed in 2023 as he was Ryan Day’s right-hand man.. Tight Ends/ Offensive Coordinator

B. Ryan Day did a good job keeping the train on the tracks this season. A lot of offensive injuries could have derailed the season but Day kept things afloat with solid play-calling and good talent development. While the star power of previous recruiting classes was not there in this 2023 class, the overall talent was as Ohio State once again finished with a top-five class. But losing to Michigan for the second consecutive season drops his grade to a “B” as Day needs to clear that hurdle in 2023.  But the culture that he has implemented while at Ohio State almost carried the Buckeyes to a national title and that cannot go unnoticed.. I think the coaching staff deserves a lot of credit this season. With an almost all-new defensive staff, the Buckeye defensively played vastly better in 2022. Hopefully, with an offseason of continuity the defense will continue to grow. Offensively, Ryan Day and the staff did a great job managing the season with a ton of injuries to worry about. They did not know who their running backs would be from week to week. Losing to Michigan stings but how the staff prepared and had the team focused for the Peach Bowl deserves credit.. .
