Defensive Coordinator. Ohio State Buckeyes. JIM KNOWLES. B-. The new defensive coordinator gets a “B-” for his first season on the job. The Buckeye defense proved to be vastly improved this season but in the games that mattered most, they failed to live up to expectations. Giving up 31, 45, and 42 points to Penn State, Michigan, and Georgia respectively is not going to get the job done. Hopefully, we see some improvement during year two in the Jim Knowles system.

Ohio State Buckeyes. LARRY JOHNSON. B. The oldest tenured coach on staff, Johnson proved again why he’s one of the best in the business. He got some young guys like Mike Hall, J.T. Tuimoloau, Jack Sawyer, and Ty Hamilton up to speed and making impacts. Veterans Tarron Vincent and Zach Harrison had their best seasons wearing the Scarlet and Grey. However, the Buckeyes lacked that star defensive lineman to make huge plays in big games. And while NIL played a factor, Johnson missed on his top three edge rushers in 2023 recruiting.. Defensive Line Coach

D-. Tim Walton’s first year at Ohio State did not go as planned. Denzel Burke regressed and Cam Brown did not play up to his best as well. The development of younger guys like JK Johnson, Jaiyre Brown, and Jordan Hancock seemed non-existent. Walton also saw the likes of JK Johnson and Jaylen Johnson transfer out. He did a good job in recruiting Texas top-100 recruit Calvin Simpson-Hunt but he lost Kayin Lee to a signing day flip.. Cornerbacks Coach. Ohio State Buckeyes. TIM WALTON

Eliano gets a solid “B” for his first season in Columbus. Eliano is a dynamic recruiter and that showed in 2023 recruiting while he also helped develop Lathan Ransom into one of the team’s best defensive players. If it wasn’t for some communication breakdowns, Eliano’s grade would be higher.. Safeties Coach. Ohio State Buckeyes. PERRY ELIANO. B
