Ohio State basketball: Late turnover dooms Buckeyes
By Ryan Stano
Stop me if you’ve heard this before; the Ohio State Buckeyes lost on a late last-second play against the number one team in the country. This time, it was the Ohio State basketball team after they held a lead late in the game. They threw the ball away and lost it.
Ohio State had a one-point lead with under 30 seconds left and possessed the ball. Then Justice Sueing got the ball on the in-bounds and turned it over, and that allowed Purdue to hit a three with 10 seconds left. That ended up being the difference as the Buckeyes lost 71-69.
As someone in their sixth season of college basketball, Sueing should know how to handle that situation better. He can’t turn it over in that situation. He has to be someone that the team can lean on as a leader in that late-game scenario. Instead, he’s the goat of the game.
Brice Sensabaugh was excellent in this game. He led the Ohio State basketball team with 21 points on 10-17 shooting. He was the only source of offense for the Buckeyes for a stretch in this game. Sensabaugh has to be better on defense though to round out his game.
Although this loss is tough to swallow, they played most of this game without Zed Key. Key hurt his shoulder early in the game and was quickly ruled out with a sprain. Hopefully, it’s nothing long-term that keeps him off the court for an extended period of time.
The Buckeyes had a chance at a resume-defining win at home against the number-one team in the country. Instead, they have to swallow a gut-wrenching loss. They now have to play at Maryland in just three days, so they have to shake this one off.
Hopefully, the Buckeyes can use this game as a learning experience. They still are a really young team.
