Coming into the college basketball season, the Ohio State basketball team was in need of a go-to scoring threat they could rely on in games. It was also a question of whether or not any of the incoming freshmen would step up and fill a big role with this team. Both questions have been asked and answered by freshman Brice Sensabaugh.

Sensabaugh has been named Big Ten Freshman of the week for the third straight week. He continues to provide the Buckeyes with stellar performances, and he turns a lot of heads with his abnormal skills on offense.

After a slow start in Ohio State’s last game against Northwestern, he blitzed the Wildcats with 16 points in the second half alone finishing the game with 18 points. The freshman wing showed once again why he is a tough matchup for a lot of teams. His ability to handle the ball and stretch the floor is one of the many reasons why teams struggle to defend him.

The Buckeyes take on the nationally top-ranked team in the country in the Purdue Boilermakers tonight and the attention of the Boilermakers will be keyed in on Sensabaugh. Purdue is a solid defensive team that only gives up 60.9 points per game. They are going to put their best defender on Sensabaugh to try and take him away and make someone else on Ohio State beat them.

Sensabaugh leads the Buckeyes in scoring at 15.9 points per game on 52.8% shooting from the field. He’s already halfway to another Big Ten freshman of the week award after an outstanding performance Sunday against Northwestern. If he can follow up his performance against Northwestern with another one against Purdue tonight, he may be in line for Big Ten freshman of the week for a fourth straight week.

Sensabaugh continuously adds to his case as the best freshman in the Big Ten. If he has another jaw-dropping performance tonight against Purdue, it may be time to put his name in the conversation as one of the best players in the conference.

I’m excited to see what the freshman phenom can do against the nationally ranked number-one team in the country tonight. It will be tough for the Buckeyes to pull off the upset if Sensabaugh is not a factor in this game.
