The Ohio State football team lost to Georgia in the Peach Bowl last Saturday evening. Things are starting to heat up for the Buckeyes in the portal.

The Ohio State football team lost another member of its program yesterday as linebacker Teradja Mitchell has left the team in favor of Florida. This comes on the heels of two other players on the roster entering the transfer portal following the Peach Bowl loss.

Mitchell had an up-and-down career while at Ohio State. A former top 50 national recruit, Mitchell was a part of that loaded 2018 recruiting class for the Buckeyes. He couldn’t crack the rotation during his first few years on campus but finally earned a starting spot in 2021 while also being named a team captain.

Injuries took their toll on Mitchell that season as he eventually lost his starting role to Tommy Eichenberg. He barely saw this field this past season as he really didn’t fit what Jim Knowles was looking for at the position.

But Mitchell moves on now to the SEC and is looking to earn a starting role at Florida. And he should at least receive some regular playing time there as the Gator defense wasn’t that strong last season.

Mitchell was suited up for the Peach Bowl and let it be known that he wanted to finish his Buckeye career off the right way while also being in the transfer portal. This is what he told the media last week, via Eleven Warriors:

"“I think this is one of the greatest universities in the world, some of the greatest coaches in the world,” Mitchell said at last week’s Peach Bowl media day. “I’m a Buckeye forever.”"

I’m happy for Mitchell. This is exactly what the transfer portal is meant for. He seemed to really enjoy his time in Columbus but just couldn’t crack the lineup this past season. He should be rewarded for sticking around the program for five seasons. He’ll have one more season of eligibility and he should have that chance at regular playing time.

Next. Injuries finally did the Buckeyes season in. dark

Good luck to Teradja Mitchell as he continues his collegiate career at Florida.
