It’s not often that the Ohio State football program gets to be the underdog in a matchup. In fact, it hasn’t happened since the National Championship Game back in 2020. In that game, the Buckeyes were unable to beat Alabama, but it’s one of the few times being an underdog hasn’t worked in recent years.

In fact, the Buckeyes have won some prominent games in recent history while being an underdog. They beat the brakes off of Michigan in 2018 while being a home underdog. They were also underdogs against both Alabama and Oregon during their run to the national title in 2014.

The Ohio State football team is once again an underdog in the Peach Bowl. It makes sense when you look at the two teams on paper. One team is the undefeated reigning national champions while the other just lost the last game they played by three scores.

Ryan Day must get his team motivated by playing the underdog card. This is a game that certainly fits the bill of “nobody believes in us”. Using that type of motivation might spark this team to play with a little bit more of an edge and add some nastiness to the way they attack the line of scrimmage.

Ohio State is going to need all the nastiness they can get in a game like this. Of all the games the Buckeyes have played in the College Football Playoff, Georgia might be the most complete team they’ve played. The 2020 Alabama team is a close second to these Bulldogs.

This is a game that could define Day as a coach. If he can lead his team to victory after being full of despair just a couple of weeks ago, it would be his greatest win as a coach. If he could win the next game too, he’d solidify his legacy as a bona fide superstar head coach in college football.
