Ohio State Football is an underdog for first time all season
By Ryan Stano
As you know by now, the Ohio State football team has made the College Football Playoff. This is the third time in four years under Ryan Day that the Buckeyes have made it. They finished the season ranked fourth in the final College Football Playoff Rankings.
Because of that ranking, they will have to take on the defending national champions in Atlanta. Georgia has been the top-ranked team all year long. They have been a really strong team on both sides of the ball. Oddsmakers don’t like Ohio State’s chances against the Bulldogs.
The Ohio State football team is an underdog to Georgia in the Peach Bowl.
According to FanDuel, the Buckeyes are 6.5-point underdogs to Georgia. This is the first time in the 2022 season that Ohio State is an underdog. Even in the Buckeyes’ only loss of the season, they were favored by 8.5 points against TTUN. This is new territory for them.
Ohio State has a history of performing well when they have been underdogs. They were underdogs in both Playoff games they played back in 2014 when they won the national championship. Obviously, this is a different team with a different coach though.
The over/under is set at 59.5 for this game, which is quite high. Both teams have high-octane offenses that can put up a lot of points in a hurry. Both defenses have had some issues in the secondary as well, so it makes sense that the total would be set there.
We have almost the entire month of December to wait before this game is finally played. Both teams have plenty of time to get healthy and gameplan. Ryan Day did say on the selection show today that he doesn’t have an update yet on Jaxon Smith-Njigba, which is not surprising. It’d be more surprising if he says anything about his availability at all.
The Buckeyes are in. Now they have their shot at redemption.
