The Ohio State football team is hitting the recruiting trail hard this week. Coaches are currently trying to flip a top recruit.

The Ohio State football team is gearing up for its matchup with Georgia at the end of this month in the College Football Playoffs. But the recruiting dead period ended last week. That means Buckeye coaches are flying all over the country to lock in their guys.

Last week we told you that Ryan Day and quarterbacks coach Corey Dennis are working hard on trying to flip 2023 four-star quarterback Lincoln Kienholtz of South Dakota. He’s currently committed to Washington. But it’s another top-ranked player that Ohio State is also pushing hard to flip.

Five-star safety and No. 13 ranked player in the 2023 class, Caleb Downs, is currently verbally committed to Alabama. Ohio State’s safeties coach Perry Eliano is working overtime to flip his commitment from the Crimson Tide.

A great sign came last month when Downs took an official visit to Columbus for the Michigan game. Downs seemed to enjoy himself, this from Rivals:

"“That game is a different type of game. It’s not comparable to anything else, the way they take it, how serious they take it and they have great football up there and a great school.”"

It was great to get a player like this on campus to see a big game atmosphere. That has to be intriguing for a highly touted player such as Downs. The next step is going to be for Ryan Day and Perry Eliano to be able to sell Downs on coming to Columbus to become a Buckeye.

Next. 3 possible replacements for Wilson at OC. dark

Signing day is only two weeks away. You can be sure that Buckeye coaches are pulling out all the stops in trying to convince Caleb Downs that Ohio State is the right choice for him and his future.
