The 2022 season is far from over for the Ohio State football team. They have a chance to pull off the ultimate redemption story, starting by beating Georiga on New Year’s Eve. But they still have eyes as to how they want to fill out their roster for next season.

C.J. Stroud will definitely be gone after this season. He will declare for the NFL Draft, leaving the Buckeyes without their starting quarterback from the last two seasons. They do have two talented quarterbacks on the roster already in Kyle McCord and Devin Brown.

But the Buckeyes also don’t have a quarterback coming in the 2023 class right now. They are trying to flip one, but still don’t have a commitment. Could they possibly go into the transfer portal to grab a backup QB, or potentially even a starting one?

The Ohio State football team could grab a quarterback from the transfer portal.

Looking at the portal, the best quarterback option is probably Devin Leary. He will get a lot of looks from schools. I’ve heard some people in Columbus speculating that they don’t see next year’s starting quarterback on the roster and that the portal is the way to go.

I don’t agree with that. I think McCord will be the starter next season and then Brown and incoming 2024 number-one recruit Dylan Raiola will fight it out in 2024. If Ohio State is going to use the portal for a QB, it should be to find a backup or third-string guy.

I’m not sure who that guy could be. Maybe it’s someone like John Paddock from Ball State. The Buckeyes just need some depth at that position in case something catastrophic happens on the injury front. I truly believe that McCord is the starting guy for them next year.

Well, we have plenty of time to find out how Ohio State utilizes the portal in the next couple of months. Right now, they are focused on Georgia.
