Ohio State Football: C.J. Stroud’s odds to win the Heisman Trophy
By Ryan Stano
We learned yesterday that C.J. Stroud is once again a finalist for the Heisman Trophy. He’s the first Ohio State football player to be a two-time Heisman finalist since they began naming Heisman finalists in 1982. That’s two pretty darn good years from the quarterback.
Even though Stroud’s last game was a bit of a dud considering the loss, I don’t put the loss to TTUN at his feet. He was making some really good throws until the end of the game when he forced that interception that essentially sealed the end of the game.
There also aren’t any stand-out guys this season. Caleb Williams got blasted in his final game in the SEC Championship. Max Duggan lost his last game too. Stetson Bennett is the only guy who played on an undefeated team but is not the biggest reason his team is great.
These are the odds for the Ohio State football player to win the Heisman.
So what does that all leave us with? Where do Stroud’s odds sit to win the Heisman? According to FanDuel, his odds sit at +2500. That is third behind Duggan and Williams. Williams is a big favorite at the moment, with his odds sitting at -3000. Vegas loves him to win the award.
I can’t say I blame them. Williams has been more dynamic with both his arm and his legs than Stroud has. Stroud also doesn’t really have a defining Heisman moment or win. I would actually be pretty surprised if Stroud walked away from the ceremony with the trophy.
That doesn’t mean he hasn’t had a great Ohio State career in the last two seasons. Despite not beating TTUN, he has put together a really good resume. He also has the ultimate chance at redemption. He can still lead this team to a national championship this year.
We’ll find out who wins the Heisman on Saturday at 8 pm.
