Ohio State football: Three takeaways from win vs. Northwestern
By Ryan Stano
3. This Ohio State football team may not be good enough to win it all.
I really thought this Ohio State football team had a chance to be special. The offense was poised to be the most explosive one in college football and the defense has improved massively from a year ago. I thought this team was good enough to win a national championship.
After what I saw on Saturday, I have serious questions about that. The inability to be able to run the ball is extremely concerning. If they can’t fix that issue, they may not beat Michigan. They certainly won’t win a College Football Playoff semifinal game.
On the bright side, three top-six teams lost on Saturday. Tennessee, Clemson, and Alabama all went down. Perhaps that means that there aren’t as many elite teams as we once thought. Only Ohio State, Michigan, Georgia, and TCU remain undefeated.
Georgia looks like a monster. If the Buckeyes had to play them right now I think they would lose. That’s how good I think the Bulldogs are playing right now on both sides of the ball. They, not Ohio State, look like the best team in college football right now.
Can the Buckeyes fix their issues before they play TTUN and start to look like the best team in college football? Maybe. I’m not going to rule it out, but I don’t think that’s the way they are trending right now.
