Ohio State football vs. Iowa: What you need to know
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football team comes out of its bye week looking to stay on the roll they were on to start the year. They had the week to sit back and watch the carnage and get healthy. Now they take on an Iowa squad that has struggled this year up to this point.
This will be the sixth game in the first seven weeks at home for the Buckeyes. It’s a game that will tell us just how elite Ohio State’s offense is because Iowa brings in a solid defense. In fact, Iowa only allows 9.8 points per game so far this season, which is 3rd best in the country. They held Michigan to a season-low 27 points a couple of weeks ago.
In terms of yards per game, Iowa is seventh in the country. They only allow 264.7 yards per game and only allow a stingy 154 yards per game through the air. That’s good enough for 3rd best in all of college football. We’ll see if Ohio State’s offense truly can score at will.
On offense, Iowa is just dreadful. They might be the worst offense in the FBS to watch. They’re last in the country in yards per game, gaining just 238.7. They don’t move the ball down the field well at all and struggle to score points. Iowa averages just 14.7 points per game.
We won’t learn a whole lot about the Ohio State football team’s defense this Saturday. We have to wait for two weeks to learn more about that once they take on Penn State. Right now, this is a good time to show the rest of the country just how unstoppable the offense is.
If Ohio State drops 50+ on Iowa, the rest of the country should be extremely scared about what they can do to them. If Iowa can’t stop them, I’m not sure there’s anyone who can.
