Ohio State football: Just the beginning for Marvin Harrison Jr.
By Ryan Stano
When the Ohio State football team was able to get Marvin Harrison Jr. out of Saint Joseph’s Prep out of Philly, I was extremely excited. He was the most underrated recruit of the 2021 class and I knew he was going to be a star in the making once he got the opportunity for more playing time.
Having watched his dad all my life, I knew the son of the Hall of Fame receiver was going to be special. Just two years into his career, he already is. Harrison Jr. has really only gotten significant playing time in three games so far in his career. He’s been electric in all of them.
Harrison Jr. had 3 touchdown catches in the Rose Bowl last year when he had to step up in the absence of Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson. That’s when he introduced himself to the world. He got a lot of passes thrown his way in the season-opener against Notre Dame too, but couldn’t find the end zone.
Last week against Arkansas State, he once again had 3 touchdown catches. That’s 6 touchdowns in three games when he’s been a starter. That’s pretty dang good. This is just the beginning for Harrison Jr. too. He’s just a sophomore and will get even better as the year goes on.
With Jaxon Smith-Njigba back in the fold this week, Harrison Jr. is going to have more opportunities to make big plays. Toledo is going to focus a lot of attention on JSN. Every team the Ohio State football program faces this year will. That leaves Harrison Jr. with a lot of one-on-one coverage.
Any time he gets that kind of coverage, he should get the ball. He’s an explosive athlete with an incredible catch-radius. I believe he’s going to be the best receiver the Buckeyes have on next year’s roster and will be one of the best receivers in the country.
Harrison Jr’s journey is just beginning. I can’t wait to watch how it unfolds.
