Ohio State football: 3 takeaways from win vs. Arkansas State
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football team is the Big Ten’s best team
Through two weeks of the season, Ohio State has solidified itself as the best team in the conference. It’s clear that the Big Ten isn’t a very strong conference this season, especially in the Big Ten West which just had an absolutely disastrous weekend.
The only team that might have a claim to be the conference’s best beside the Buckeyes is TTUN. They have two blowout wins on their resume but have yet to play a Power 5 team. They also haven’t settled on a starting quarterback yet, so we don’t know how good they are.
After those two teams though, it’s a significant drop-off to the next best team. Michigan State probably takes that crown. Then it’s probably Penn State. After that though, I’m not sure there’s actually another solid team in the conference.
This is clearly a down year for the Big Ten as a whole, but that doesn’t matter for Ohio State. As long as they win all of their games, they will make the College Football Playoff. An undefeated Big Ten champion will never get left out of the Playoff, no matter how weak the conference is.
How ready the Buckeyes would be for a non-Big Ten opponent remains to be seen though. Going through a weak conference could have some consequences once they face an elite team from a different conference. That’s not something to worry about right now though.
What matters is that the Ohio State Buckeyes are 2-0 and look like one of the best teams in the country in the early going.
