The Ohio State football team was tougher on the line of scrimmage

Toughness was a big problem for the Buckeyes a year ago, especially on both lines. We already talked about how the defensive line was improved. The offensive line was improved too, and they showed that in the second half of this game especially.

In the first half, I thought the battle on the line of scrimmage was pretty even between the Bucks and the Irish. The second half is where the Buckeyes wore down Notre Dame and were able to impose their will on them, especially in the running game.

Miyan Williams ran all over Notre Dame on that final scoring drive for Ohio State. That was because the offensive line was tougher than Notre Dame’s defensive line. This is why Justin Frye was brought in to coach the offensive line this year.

The pass blocking was pretty good all game as well. C.J. Stroud was only sacked one time in this game, although he was hurried a few times early. That’s going to happen against a good team though. I thought the offensive line was much improved from a year ago.

This unit is going to be key moving forward. If Ohio State can run the ball in critical situations, the offense becomes truly unstoppable. They become one of the most complete teams in the country as well as one of the most dangerous teams in the country.

The final takeaway from this past weekend is yet another positive.
