Ohio State Football: Three keys to a win vs. Notre Dame
The Ohio State football team needs to keep their emotions in check
The preseason hype surrounding this matchup gets louder by the day. Ohio State and Notre Dame both open the season ranked in the Top 5 and have College Football Playoff expectations even with tricky schedules. The Buckeyes led the nation in scoring and total offense in 2021 and believe the unit will be even better this season despite losing Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson to the NFL.
There is potential for it to reach or exceed 2019 LSU’s historical levels, but Buckeye Nation needs to come down to earth. All of the expectations and energy have this game feeling like the Buckeyes are taking on a mid-major. Jim Knowles brings his 4-2-5 scheme to Columbus, and the Silver Bullets will return to flying around, playing aggressively, and getting after the quarterback.
However, it’s the first game in a new system. If Notre Dame scores 20-28 points, it’s not the world’s end where the panic button needs to be pressed. The Irish are a Top-5 football team that I expect to score 24 points.
Furthermore, I believe Ohio State will score more, and that’s what matters: a win. The Buckeyes will show signs of vast improvement defensively and win a hard-fought Top-5 matchup 38-24 to propel their quest to a ninth National Title.
