The Ohio State football program is expected to be really good this season. After the offensive display they showed against Utah in the Rose Bowl without two first-round wide receivers, they still put up a bunch of yards and points on the Pac-12 champs en route to a Rose Bowl victory.

For the 2022 season, the Buckeyes are looked on as one of the favorites to win the national championship. The coaches seem to agree with that assessment as well. The first Coaches Poll came out this afternoon and they seem to love the Ohio State football team this year.

Ohio State comes in at number two in the first poll, just behind Alabama. Georgia, Clemson, and Notre Dame round out the top five. That means that the season-opener in the shoe will showcase two top-five teams when the Fighting Irish come to town.

The only other Big Ten school in the top 10 is TTUN, which comes in at number six. I thought Michigan State had an outside shot to get into the top 10, but they are 14th in this first coaches poll. Wisconsin is the only other Big Ten school in the top 25 sitting at 20.

Iowa and Penn State were the two teams who just missed to cut on this poll though. Perhaps the most surprising thing, and dumbest thing, about this coaches poll is that someone voted Texas as the number one team in the country. That’s flat-out absurd.

As far as Ohio State goes, they will be facing four preseason top 25 opponents in the regular season. They will see Notre Dame, TTUN, Michigan State, and Wisconsin this year. The great thing for the Buckeyes is that only one of those games is away from home, and that’s the MSU game.

The AP Poll will come out in the next few days as well. That one will be interesting to see since the media is actually paying attention to all of the teams in college football, unlike the coaches. Do you agree with Ohio State’s ranking?
