The Ohio State football team is definitely going to be a top 10 team this year. They are one of the favorites to win the national title and are the favorites to win the Big Ten. That doesn’t mean that they are going to be the only good team in the Big Ten this year though.

What other teams could possibly be ranked in the top 10 in the preseason poll? Ohio State will obviously be a top 5 team. TTUN made the playoff last year, so you’d think they could possibly be up there too. Here are the possible candidates for a top 10 preseason ranking.

First off, TTUN is a candidate. They had their best season in the Jim Harbaugh era last season. Even though they lose a lot from their vaunted defense, they still have their starting quarterback and running back available. They won’t be terrible. I could see them being ranked in the 8-10 range.

Michigan State was the other team that did some damage in the Big Ten last year. They were the seventh-ranked team in the country before the Buckeyes absolutely destroyed them. Mel Tucker is in his third year as coach and should be more comfortable leading the Spartans now.

I could see Michigan State being ranked 10th at best. They are the only other team that could possibly be ranked that high. All of the other Big Ten teams have too much to prove in order to get that high of a ranking. Wisconsin and Penn State could potentially get there by the end of the season, but not preseason.

It’ll be interesting to see which Big Ten teams are ranked once the preseason poll does come out. I’d like to think that there could be five or six teams from the conference in that first poll.
