Ohio State Football now projected to land four-star safety
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football team had a rough start to the month of August when it came to recruiting. After a great start to the summer, they have now had two de-commitments and have lost out on a rash of defensive prospects. Things might be turning around though.
That’s because 247Sports has the Buckeyes projected to land four-star safety Jayden Bonsu. Bonsu is the fourth-best safety in the state of New Jersey. He had long been thought to be headed to Miami, but the Buckeyes have made a heavy push for him lately.
Now, it looks like that push might be enough to land him. Bonsu stands at 6’1 and 210 pounds, which is the ideal body type for a safety. He’s someone that has great range along the back end of the field and keeps everything in front of him to prevent big plays.
Things change very quickly in recruiting. Just three weeks ago, 247 had him going to Miami. Now, things have flipped back over to Ohio State. Landing Bonsu would give the Buckeyes a boost to a 2023 class that has fallen to 4th in the country after those de-commitments.
Bonsu would be the third safety in this recruiting class and he would also be the lowest-rated safety. But that doesn’t matter. He has the potential to be pretty darn good with Jim Knowles coaching him. Knowles loves having a lot of safeties on the roster too.
As I mentioned before, things can change at the drop of a hat when it comes to recruiting. Ohio State absolutely does not have this wrapped up. We’ll see when Bonsu decides to make his official decision, but Ohio State still has to keep recruiting him hard.
Ryan Day is trying his best to salvage what was once a phenomenal class. It still has the chance to be pretty good depending on some other commitments that might come his way. We’ll just have to wait and see.
