It’s been a wild recruiting season for the Ohio State football program. After a slow start to the 2023 recruiting class, they followed it up by landing three stud recruits in the span of three days. Now, things are starting to go poorly again for the Buckeyes.

Ryan Day and his staff have failed to land several prominent defensive recruits in this class. They recently lost their top corner commit as well after Dijon Johnson decided to flip his recruitment. It looks like another recruit has been flipped from the Buckeyes, this time on offense.

Ty Lockwood, one of the first commits in this class, appears to have flipped. He attended a barbecue hosted by Alabama and received an offer there. Then, he attempted to tweet out an offer video. Instead, he tweeted out a commitment video to the Crimson Tide.

Although he deleted the commitment video, the damage has been done. There’s very little chance of holding onto him now. The recruiting seems to be falling apart at the seams for the Buckeyes. Day has to get control of this class back before it truly spirals out of control.

Lockwood is a four-star tight end and was one of two tight ends the Ohio State football program had in this class. Alabama has already overtaken Ohio State for second in the recruiting rankings. If they take Lockwood from the Buckeyes, that gap would only widen.

This has been an alarming couple of weeks on the recruiting trail for the Bucks. I know Day is starting to hone in on the start of the season, but this could end up being a disaster. Day was flirting with the number one class for most of the year. To end up losing commits like this is a complete mess.

Ohio State still has time to re-recruit Lockwood and keep him on board, but it doesn’t look likely. Hopefully, the Buckeyes can fix whatever issue is going on quickly.
