Why an Ohio State Football player will win the Heisman this year
By Alex Austin
TreVeyon Henderson is another Ohio State football player who could win the Heisman.
TreVeyon Henderson had one of the best seasons ever from an Ohio State running back but found himself overshadowed on the team. With two first-round talents at wide receiver and a quarterback who ended up in New York for the Heisman voting, Henderson was often third fiddle. This year, however, he will be a force to be reconded with.
Without going too deep into things, one of the issues the Ohio State Buckeyes had last year was their inability to be creative in the run game. Each run looked almost identical and came during very traditional down and distance situations. This is something I think Ryan Day will be able to quickly fix this year.
The more an offense can keep a defense off-balance, the better it works for the whole system. TreVeyon Henderson is the kind of back that can pick up positive yards, break a play for a huge gain, or become a receiver out of the backfield. Using him to his full abilities can only help the Buckeyes.
If defenses become focused on trying to stop Stroud and Co. from marching down the field, Henderson may see limited focus throughout the year. This will lead to huge holes and running lanes for him to exploit. With a full year of workouts and training, Henderson won’t need much to become one of the best rushers in America, which could help see him at the top of the podium.
