Why an Ohio State Football player will win the Heisman this year

Ohio State is in a great position to win the Heisman Trophy this year.
The Ohio State football team is in a great position to win many awards this year. At the top of the list is the National Title, but an award that has been “close but yet so far” for a few years is the Heisman Trophy. The Buckeyes have not won the award since 2006 when Troy Smith took home the sward, even though several players have been in the voting in recent years.
With the Trophy highlighting the best player in college football (and if we are being honest it is the best offensive player) the Buckeyes are in a great spot to have one of their players holding the trophy at the end of the season.
The Ohio State football team is led by a three-headed monster on offense, with each player having a solid chance to end up on top. With C.J. Stroud, TreVeyon Henderson, and Jaxon Smith-Njigba leading the way, Ohio State has three legitimate options to add to its collection.
Each of the three options has many reasons for and against why they will be the last ones standing. Let’s take a deeper dive into each player to determine the most likely Buckeye to win the Heisman Trophy.
C.J. Stroud is the most likely Ohio State football player to win the trophy.
When I said that the Heisman typically goes to an offensive player, I could have clarified further. Quarterbacks win this award. Occasionally a wide receiver or running back does enough to win, but more often than not, quarterbacks are the only ones with a real chance to win.
Because of this, the quarterback on any team is always going to be the most likely to win. C.J. Stroud benefits from coming into the season as one of the best players in the country and should be able to build on his incredible Freshman season.
Stroud will once again be asked to run Ryan Day’s high-powered offense. While the Buckeyes are looking to improve their defense, this team is going to go as far as the offense takes them. Stroud is going to have one of the best wide receiver rooms in the country which should be able to have their way against most opponents.
Last year, a few rocky games at the beginning of the season and then a team clunker at the end limited how high Stroud could climb. This year, with a full year under his belt, Stroud should come out strong. His biggest competition will be defending winner, Bryce Young, however, with only one player winning multiple Heismans, the odds are in favor of a new player rising to the top.
