The Ohio State football team could land a five-star edge rusher.

Ohio State has done a phenomenal job of recruiting edge players in the last five or six years. Larry Johnson has done a fantastic job of getting players in here and developing them for the NFL. He’s been able to add a ton of five-star recruits to the roster using that track record as a recruiting pitch.

Johnson is hoping to land another five-star guy in Damon Wilson. Wilson is rated as the fourth-best edge player in the country and hails from Venice, Florida. Ohio State does a great job of recruiting out of the state of Florida, so this would be another great player from that pipeline.

Wilson stands at 6’4 and 230 pounds. He is truly an athlete. He is able to get around the field very quickly and shows explosion off the line of scrimmage with his hand on the ground as a defensive end, but is athletic enough that he can play standing up too.

Wilson is the type of player that Jim Knowles has in mind when he thinks of the “Jack” position. He’s a versatile player that can rush the passer and get back in coverage as needed too. Wilson is good enough that he could play linebacker if they needed him to as well.

Unlike the other two players I mentioned, Wilson has not indicated when he is ready to make a decision yet. Other than Ohio State, Alabama, Georgia, Miami, and Texas are still in the running for him. All are premier programs with a history of getting guys into the NFL.

We’ll see what happens with all three of these players. All are really good prospects that could help the Buckeyes right away. We’ll let you know about developments regarding any of these three guys, but we’ll know more about Downs first.
